Which should you use?
For a free transfer of 5 GB or less, both services send without registration and keep files for about a week. TransferNow adds a free password. Above 5 GB, TransferNow Free cannot take the transfer in one go and Dropvi Free can, up to 50 GB.
TransferNow is the better fit if
- Your transfer is 5 GB or less and you want a password without paying.
- You need files to stay online for months. TransferNow Premium and Team keep them for up to 365 days.
- You need 250 GB in one transfer on a paid plan. Dropvi Business Pro takes up to 200 GB.
Dropvi is the better fit if
- You want to send more than 5 GB in one transfer without paying.
- Your transfer is between 5 GB and 50 GB and you would otherwise split it into several transfers.
What Dropvi includes on every plan
- A SHA-256 checksum for every file, computed in the sender's browser during the upload.
- Downloads of single files or of every file as one ZIP, with dropped connections retried automatically.
- A free command-line tool that resumes an interrupted upload and checks each file's SHA-256 on download.
Where Dropvi falls short
- Dropvi Free has no password. TransferNow Free includes one.
- Dropvi keeps a transfer online for at most 30 days on any plan. TransferNow's paid plans keep files for up to 365 days.
- Dropvi Business Pro takes up to 200 GB per transfer, less than the 250 GB of TransferNow Premium.
- The browser uploader cannot resume an interrupted upload. Only the Dropvi CLI can.
