How long a large upload takes
Times assume the upload runs at the full speed of your connection for the whole transfer. Real uploads are usually slower, so treat these as the shortest likely time.

Calculated as size in GB × 8,000 ÷ speed in Mbps, giving seconds, using decimal gigabytes. Dropvi enforces the free limit as 50 GiB, about 53.7 GB, so a 50 GB transfer fits with a little room.
How to send a large file free
- Open dropvi.com and add your files. A transfer can hold up to 500 files and up to 50 GB in total.
- Choose link mode. You do not need an account or an email address to create a link.
- Keep the page open until the upload finishes. Dropvi works out a SHA-256 checksum for every file in your browser as it uploads.
- Copy the link and send it however you like. It stays online for up to 7 days.
- Your recipient opens the link and downloads single files or every file as one ZIP, and a dropped connection is retried automatically. They do not need an account.
What needs an account and what does not
- Sending a link: no account.
- Downloading: no account, ever.
- Having Dropvi email the files to your recipient: a free account, created when you confirm your email address with a one-time code.
- A PIN or password, a download limit, or links that last up to 30 days: Business Pro and above.
If your connection is unreliable
The browser uploader cannot resume. If a long upload stops, you start it again. For a large transfer on an unreliable connection, use the free Dropvi command-line tool: dropvi send --resume continues from the first part not yet stored, as long as the files have not changed. Like the website, it encrypts every transfer end to end.

Is there a limit on how many files I can send?
A transfer can hold up to 500 files. If you have more, put them in a ZIP archive first or send more than one transfer.
How long does my recipient have to download?
Up to 7 days on Dropvi Free. Business Pro and Teams & Suite keep transfers for up to 30 days.
What if my files are larger than 50 GB?
Split them across several free transfers, or use Business Pro, which takes up to 200 GB per transfer, or Teams & Suite, which takes up to 1 TB. A single file can be up to about 878 GiB (about 943 GB).
How does my recipient know the files arrived intact?
Dropvi shows a SHA-256 checksum for every file, worked out in your browser during the upload. Your recipient can compare it with the downloaded copy using the checksum verifier. Downloading with the Dropvi command-line tool checks it automatically.
